Ring Durability
My wood rings are more durable than most people think. I was told a by
one customer that when she was in college some twenty years ago that
she had asked a friend to make her a wood ring. While finish sanding
the ring it would break. After 2 to 3 failed attempts she had given up
on having a wood ring. Until she found Simply Natural Wood Rings, she
bought her first and since then she has bought one more. My rings made
from one piece of wood made in such a way that holds the structural
integrity of the wood intact which only adds to its durability.
As with a good violin, properly made can last for a very long time. It
is really quite amazing that some of the greatest violins dating from
the early 16th century, are still in use today, despite their fragile
build. A rings life span and healthy condition is directly related to
the care taken by it's owners to preserve it. As well as the effects of
atmospheric changes, various other dangers such as shocks and blows
threaten a rings health. You can help preserve your ring with proper
cleaning.
A light buffing with furniture polish will help maintain the rings
luster. It is important that the rings contact to harsh chemicals, dirt
and dust be limited. Please don´t use commercial "cleaners"
on your
ring. They often contain solvents and abrasives which can seriously
damage the ring. As with the most beautiful examples of classical
varnishes are those which have, been spared constant polishing.
Ring finish
The process starts with surface preparation with
sanding by hand. At
times, the wood's color is enhanced by a dying technique similar to the
process used to dye natural wool. Once the wood surface is
prepared a
waterproof finish is applied. Finally the surface is polished to high
luster if gloss is the preferred finish. |
